The fourth annual Early Stage Investment Conference (ESIC) took place on November 30th, 7 PM.
Special Guests for the conference were Peter Cowley, Artavazd Minasyan, and Karen Vardanyan. Peter shared his invaluable experience as a “super angel” with Armenian angels. Participants had a chance to ask questions and participate in discussions.
In the second part of the event, a panel discussion was held on the topic “Early Stage Investing: Tips and Insights” with the moderation of Peter Cowley. Early-stage investing with General Partners of two Armenian VCs: Karen Vardanyan, General Partner at Formula VC, and Artavazd Minasyan, General Partner at BigStory VC were discussed.
Peter Cowley – founded and run over a dozen businesses in the last 40 years. He has built up a portfolio of 75 angel investments with 11 positive exits. Peter Cowley is a board member of the Global Business Angel Network (GBAN), President Emeritus of the European Business Angel Network (EBAN). Peter is the author of the book “Invested Investor: The new rules for start-ups, scale-ups, and angel investing”.
On December 8th, the third Annual Early Stage Investment Conference took place online. The conference consisted of two parts.
The first part was for investors only. Invited speakers shared their experience in modern angel investing practices in various markets (US and Europe), as well as the chosen startups had a unique opportunity to pitch to all participating investors.
The second part of the event was open to all representatives of the startup ecosystem. Guest speakers had a panel discussion and the audience had an opportunity to ask questions. The topic of the panel discussion was “Big changes, Big Opportunities”. The speakers were:
Philippe Glunt – Co-Founder and First President of Business Angels Europe, Vice-President of France Angels, President Founder of Paris Business Angels Network.
Armen Kherlopian – Founding partner at the BAJ Accelerator hosted at the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute, Investor with New York Angels, Venture Judge in the Columbia University Entrepreneurship Community, Science Mentor at the Creative Destruction Lab.
Ronald Weissman – Chairman of the Software Group at Band of Angels, member of the Board of Directors of the Angel Capital Association.
On September 17th an Annual Early Stage Investment Conference of BANA – Business Angel Network of Armenia took place in Yerevan with business investors, IT business leaders and startup founders. Speakers at an Early Stage Investment Conference were venture capitalists Luigi Amati from Italy and Brigitte Baumann from France.
The president of Business Angels Europe(BAE) and the director of International META Venture Company Luigi Amati together with Brigitte Baumann, the president of EBAN and the founder of Go Beyond Fintech visited Yerevan by the special invitation of BANA-Business Angel Network Armenia.
Before the conference, RA President Armen Sargsyan hosted Luigi Amati, Brigitte Baumann, and BANA Director Grigor Hovhannisyan. They discussed ways of establishing favorable conditions for foreign investors and ways of simplifying the process. They also emphasized the importance of early-stage investors, as they will ensure the growth of large enterprises. Afterward, the guests at the Ministry of Economy stated that they want to develop an angel investment culture in Armenia.

In September 2018, with the collaboration of ESIL and EU, BANA hosted the First Early Stage Investment Conference in Yerevan, to promote Angel Investment culture in Armenia. The President Emeritus of EBAN and ESIL Archangel Brigitte Baumann had a workshop on angel investing and meeting with Armenian female entrepreneurs.
Among the guests were representatives from the Government of RA, EU Delegation, Business Leaders, Investors and Startup founders.
